AN eight-wicket defeat at Newport has left Ludlow CC facing the prospect of finishing bottom of their Shropshire League summer group with one game remaining. Ludlow are a point above bottom-placed Madeley in the Premier Division Clive Smith Group but visit pool winners Quatt, who have won all nine of their games, this weekend. Jack Stockdale (69) and Sam Edwards (56no) helped Ludlow post 187-6 at Newport but opener Sam Papps’ unbeaten 93 helped the hosts cruise home at 191-2. Ludlow seconds are bottom of South and East Division Two as their total of 147, with Harry Small (43) and Justin Wheatley (44) top-scoring, was easily knocked off by Lilleshall at 148-3. Bishops Castle are third in the Wales and West Group after Will Middleton (4-14) and Jack Perry (3-20) skittled Guilsfield for 102. Perry (36no) led Castle home at 106-4. Church Stretton suffered an eight loss in eight games in South Central, all out for 180 in reply to Wellington’s 203-4 despite Hamran Khalid’s fine 74. In the Worcestershire League, Tenbury (147-2) sealed second place in Group D of the Plate with an eight-wicket win over Chaddesley Corbett (145). But there was Marches League play-off disappointment for Knighton on Teme (95) as they lost heavily to Colwall (96-2) despite Thomas Genders’ unbeaten 32.
