LUDLOW Town Colts boss Mark Tonkinson believes his side have settled into the season after a difficult start following last weekend’s impressive 3-0 win over Hinton.
Colts made it back-to-back Herefordshire Premier Division wins, never really looking back after James Byatt crossed for defender-turned striker Sol Barker to put them ahead.
A fabulous fingertip save from Regan Tonkinson preserved the lead before skipper Luke Hicks set up Sam Thomas to slot home the second and the captain later scored a penalty won by Barker.
“It was good to get back-to-back clean sheets,” said boss Tonkinson. “It’s been two good performances from the lads because the two defeats before them were a bit hard to take.
“Hopefully, we’ve got a settled side now as we were struggling a bit but Jack Davies has dropped down from the Ludlow first team and been a revelation.”
In Division One, Ludlow Colts Reserves were unlucky to only draw 1-1 at Civil Service, denied all three points by an imperious display from the home keeper. Josh Williams got their leveller.
Clee Hill are five points clear at the top of the Premier Division after a 4-1 victory over Ewyas Harold made it five wins out of five as Craig Breakwell and Ryan Clarke bagged braces.
Matthew Clent was sent off as ten-man Tenbury United were held 1-1 at home by Ledbury Town Reserves in Division One. Chris Patton scored but Tenbury slipped to second.
Tenbury Town lost 3-2 at Holme Lacy Reserves despite goals from Al Bright and Dec Bright.
Elsewhere, Shawbury United celebrated being granted planning permission for a new four-acre home by going second in the West Midlands Premier table with a 3-0 win over Smethwick Rangers.
Reiss Corfield (2) and Jake Young netted for Shawbury, who have ground-shared with Ludlow since 2016 but hope to move ‘back home’ in time for next season.
Shawbury’s landlords Ludlow, meanwhile, went top of the Salop Leisure League with a 3-0 win at Shifnal Town Development thanks to goals from Kieran Dovey, Jack Mear and Ryan Lewis.
Church Stretton are sixth after beating AFC Bridgnorth Development 4-0 for a third straight win. Jack Davis (2), Matthew Cole and Alex Haigh netted.
