BURWAY Bowling Club trio Chris Dovey, Ben Allen and Adam Dovey claimed the Flowfit Ludlow and District League triples title in some style on a fast and tricky green at Ludlow Castle.
They lifted the crown for the first time, beating the Castle team of Dave Wilding, Richard Lane and Simon Lane – champions for the previous two years – 21-6 in the final.
Wilding and the Lanes had cruised into the final, dropping just 17 shots across three games as they triumphed 21-6, 21-5 and 21-6 on their home green at the Castle club.
However, Allen and the Doveys stormed into a 16-4 lead after just five ends and never looked back.
Their semi-final had been a much closer affair, against another team from tournament hosts Castle in the shape of Nicky Beard, Harry Harrington and Tom Harrington.
The game was nip and tuck with only a couple of shots the difference throughout before two twos in the final two ends saw Allen and the Doveys come from 20-17 down to edge a nail-biter 21-20.
The champions’ quarter-final victory had been far more of a procession as they defeated Steve Burmingham, Duncan Pressley and Len Lewis 21-3.
